Designing With Dark Laminates
Aubergine and grey stone — how to make deep tones feel expansive rather than heavy.
Dark surfaces carry a reputation for shrinking rooms. Handled well, they do the opposite — they dissolve boundaries and make a space feel like it continues into shadow.
The trick is contrast control. A deep Aubergine Facet cabinet against a pale wall reads as a deliberate void, sculptural and calm. The same tone everywhere becomes a cave.
Use texture to keep dark tones alive. Our Aubergine Facet catches enough grazing light across its geometry to never read as flat, even in a windowless dressing room.
Finally, let contrast do the lifting. A run of grey Pietra Grigio, or a single panel of high-gloss Calacatta Oro, turns a heavy backdrop into something architectural. Dark laminate is a stage; give it one bright thing to frame.
